The World of Patches
Embroidered patches have a fascinating history that dates back many centuries.
The art of embroidery has been practiced in many different cultures around the world and has been used to decorate fabrics, clothing, and various objects. Embroidered patches are an artistic expression of this tradition.
The earliest forms of embroidery can be traced back to ancient times, with evidence of embroidery work found in Egypt, China, India, and Persia. Over the centuries, embroidery evolved, influenced by the artistic and cultural trends of different eras.
During the European Middle Ages, embroidery became a highly esteemed skill and was used to decorate garments, tapestries, and valuable objects. Nuns in convents and women of royal courts would dedicate many hours to creating intricate embroidered patterns using colorful threads and beads.
Embroidered patches began to appear as ornaments on clothing, especially to repair holes or gaps. During the Renaissance, the art of embroidery reached new heights of refinement. Noble aristocratic families employed skilled embroiderers to create elaborate embroidered artworks, often using gold and silver threads.
Embroidered patches were applied to cloaks, blankets, and cushions to enhance their aesthetic appeal.
In Embroidered patches, embroidered patches have experienced a resurgence in popular culture. They have become a distinctive element in street fashion and trendy clothing. Many people collect and apply embroidered patches to backpacks, denim jackets, and other garments to showcase their interests, personal tastes, or simply to display their sense of style.
I began to appreciate the world of patches thanks to the NBA.
I noticed that the numbers, player names, and team logos applied on the game jerseys are made as sewn patches, following the tradition of the past, rather than being heat-sealed.

Then, in 2019, I decided to design a vest for the group Freedom Fyah, whose story can be found on the Digital Illustrations page. I wanted to revamp the group's logo and make it the centerpiece of the vest. This time, the patch's dimensions were considerably larger, measuring 23x23 cm.
In addition to the main logo patch on the back of the vest, I also commissioned a second patch that represented my own logo. This patch was placed inside a square with rounded corners, adorned with the colors of the Rastafarian tricolor. The choice of these colors was inspired by the group's musical genre, Reggae.
The vest, with the sewn patch, was displayed for a period of time at Stargrass in Barcelona, a social club. It was exciting to see how the work I had done had a positive impact and garnered a fair amount of success. People appreciated the design and quality of the patch, which brought me a great sense of satisfaction.
In 2020, I launched my website and, along with it, I decided to revamp my logo by introducing a fundamental element: the moon.
This mystical symbol is closely linked to inspiration. It represents an inner illumination that guides us towards creativity and wisdom. The moon, with its silvery light shining through the dark nights, inspires poets, artists, and thinkers, awakening their imagination and stimulating their artistic expression. It is considered a source of intuition and connection with the emotional and subconscious sphere, which in turn can generate inspiration.
Through the moon, we are invited to look within ourselves, listen to our inner voice, and explore the depths of our feelings.
It is from this wellspring of inspiration that new ideas and creative projects can arise. The presence of the moon in my logo represents the connection between inner illumination, intuition, and my artistic expression.

This patch has been created with the intention of using it in the future for the development of dedicated merchandise. The idea that inspired me is to create a line of hoodies with an extremely minimalist design.
This project is currently in the development phase, but I do not consider it a priority at the moment. The planned realization date is set for 2024, allowing enough time to plan and produce the desired merchandise.
I have chosen 2024 as the target date because it provides an adequate timeframe to address all the necessary stages of the project, including design, production, and promotion of the merchandise. This timeframe will also allow me to focus on other current priorities or projects before fully dedicating myself to this hoodie line.

In the continuation of revisiting my logo with the inclusion of the moon, I decided to proceed with the production of a second patch, which showcases a more detailed illustration.
The foundation of the patch remains the lettering logo "MrB89" enclosed within an illuminated yellow moon, symbolizing inner enlightenment. However, I further enriched the design by incorporating the figure of a dragon.
The dragon is a mystical symbol representing a profound spiritual connection with inner wisdom.
It is associated with a higher understanding of the world and oneself.
Its presence in the patch adds an element of mystery and power to the overall image.
The dragon also represents the strength and courage required to face challenges and overcome obstacles along the creative journey.

This patch was created to embellish the centerpiece of various vests, which were showcased during the summer of 2022 at my hobbyist stand.
