Let's start from the origin, defining what is meant by illustration.
According to the dictionary, an illustration is a visual representation that can take the form of a drawing, a painting, a photograph, or another artistic technique.
However, this definition does not address the central point that, in my opinion, characterizes a drawing or any other technique as a true illustration.
An illustration is distinguished by its ability to capture the most peculiar aspects of the subject being represented. The ability to grasp the distinctive characteristics, details, and visual nuances depends on the experience that the artist's eye and the technique used have accumulated over time. However, what truly fascinates me is the ability to infuse life into the emotions expressed by the depicted protagonist.
For example, if we take a living being, whether it be a person or an animal, the illustrator's task is to capture not only their physical likeness but also their personality, distinctive features, and particulars.
This process transforms the illustration into a mirror of the soul of the individual portrayed, making each stroke an authentic expression of their essence.
This is the pulsating heart, the fundamental cornerstone of the art of illustration.
